Learn to skate FAQ

From what age can a child learn to ice skate?

Children can start from around 6 years old. Our youngest groups learn in a sectioned-off area of the ice, where the focus is balance and confidence before anything else. Tell us the child's age and we'll place them in the right group.

Do I need my own ice skates?

No. Skate rental is available at Galaxy, so kids and adult beginners can try the ice before buying their own pair. Once you're skating regularly, our pro shop on the first floor of Sport Society can fit and sharpen skates for you.

How many lessons until I can skate confidently?

It depends on age, how often you come and your starting point, so we don't promise a fixed number. Most beginners feel steady gliding and stopping within their first few lessons, and we build up turning and edges from there. The free first lesson lets a coach see your level and suggest a realistic plan.

Is this real ice or synthetic?

Real indoor ice. Galaxy runs a full-size sheet of real indoor ice (60×30 m) at Sport Society in Mirdif, kept at competition temperature all year. This is ice skating, not roller or synthetic.

Can adults learn to skate from zero?

Yes. We welcome adult beginners with no experience at all. Lessons start with the basics: standing, balance, gliding and stopping, in a structured, encouraging way, and you can take a free first lesson to get started.

Where do the skating lessons take place?

At our home arena, Sport Society Mall in Mirdif, Dubai, with easy parking and cafés for parents. Galaxy is the UAE's largest ice hockey club and runs its full-size sheet of real indoor ice here.
